BRIDGWATER's second string Saturn narrowly missed out on victory by five points in their match with Vivary.

Great defence from Hannah Symes, Emma Downes and Sally Haysham, Saturn managed to keep the opposition to a 13-10 lead at quarter time.

In the second period, Sammie Woolacott and Emma Reynolds kept working to get the ball smoothly down the court. However, Vivary started to pull away, increasing their lead to 24-16 by half time.

Despite accurate shooting from Becky Palmer, the team managed to close down Vivary's lead but time ran out for Saturn and the game ended 35-40 to Vivary.

Venus 51, Kestrels 39

VENUS came out of the blocks at full speed with shooters Lianne Fothergill and Karis Holleran working superbly in the circle, scoring 15 goals in the first quarter.

Dawn Fothergill and Courtney Steele kept up the pace to make sure Kestrels defence were stretched.

In the third quarter, Kestrels lifted their game but defensive duo Saskia Middleton and Coleen Bartlett pressured well and with excellent interceptions from Michelle Stone the team ran away to a 51-39 win.

Mars 31, Quantock 33

A STRONG start from Mars saw them turnover the first few Quantock centres thanks to great interceptions from Cath Clark.

Unfortunately, Quantock pulled away to a 17-12 half-time lead despite excellent shooting from Paige Langdon and Sarah Perry.

Timely interceptions from Gemma Codman and Mary King against tall Quantock shooters, and great work in the centre third from Annia Holleran kept Mars within 10 goals.

A fantastic team effort in the last quarter saw the team close the gap to two points before time ran out.

Mercury 29, Monmouth 45

MERCURY began their game well against top of the league Monmouth to finish the first quarter just two goals down, 9-11 thanks to good defending by Lucy Brown, Victoria Saban and Alisha Gardner.

Monmouth took a 27-15 at half time but Mercury did not give up, as Lily Wicks and Elaine Bartlett kept up the attack for the home team.

Good feeding from substitute Bex Dunn and excellent shooting from Norah Lewis and Kayleigh Haste was not quite enough as the team lost 45-29.
