Sydenham Sapphires 28, Parkfield 39

TERRIBLE weather conditions saw Sapphires off to a slow start against Parkfield, but they soon picked up by the end of the first quarter, however, not before Parkfield had taken a 14-7 lead.

Battling against the elements, steady passing was the order of the day, and great defending from Beth Fella and Rachel Lawrence kept Sapphires in the game. Accurate shooting closed the gap but Parkfield took advantage of their early lead and maintained it until the final whistle.

Players of the match were Beth Fella and Rachel Lawrence.

Rubies 26, Claremont 27

IT was a slow start for both teams with lots of mistakes being made due to coldness and at the end of the first quarter Claremont lead 8-5.

Sammie Brown returning after injury settled down and Rubies defence of Laura Coombes and Sandy Hocking came into their own and made Claremont work for any goals scored.

At half time the score was even at 13- 13. Rubies continued to work hard and with Paige Pople finding good space in the circle managed to keep the score very close with only one goal in it at 3/4 time with Claremont leading 21-20.

In the final quarter, player of the match Laura Coombes had an excellent game at GD, Kerry Clarke and Mikki Hole helped bring the ball to Rubies end but Rubies were pipped to the post and lost by one.

Emeralds 24, Queensway 45

EMERALDS played well with EmmaJayne Brown, Megan Buller and Stephanie Riordan fitting into the team well.

The teams had a close first quarter with great play from Michelle Martin playing out of position at centre.

However, Queensway capitalized on a some Emeralds mistakes to edge to a 9-6 lead.

Continued good shooting from Roxy McDowell linking well with Brown, helped Emeralds increase their score, however, Queensway led 23-16 at halftime.

Player of the match went to Emily Hoare.

Ambers 23, Walton Green 35

AMBERS had a tough game against Walton Green.

Both teams had a strong start but Walton Green managed to pull ahead during the first quarter with a score of 10-4. Despite Ambers having strong centre court play, with Georgia Edmundson, Stephanie Riordan and Stephanie Elkins linking well, they were unable to reduce the deficit.

Players of the match were Megan Buller and Michelle Parr.

Garnets 15, Newbarn 41

GARNETS started the game determinedly and this was shown in the first quarter, where Garnets struggled to get in front to receive the ball.

Garnets realised this, and in the second quarter Hannah Wallis (C) along with Mia Bennet (WA) worked well together to create strong passes, allowing the ball to reach Tanish Birch (GA) and Amber Lovell (GS) in the semi circle.

At half time, team changes saw Vicky Evans replace Sophie Butt at WD, and Rheanne Lee start her first senior game at GD.

Even though Garnets worked hard throughtout the game, Newbarn won the match.

Players of the match were Lucie McDowell, Rheanne Lee and Hannah Wallis.
