Jupiter 50, Saturn 30
JUPITER and Saturn were anxious about their first game of 2013 in an interclub match. In the first quarter, both sides were steadily finding their feet and after a fairly equally matched quarter, Jupiter led 9-8. The second quarter saw Jupiter intensify their game and start to widen the gap and at the half time whistle it was 22-14 to Jupiter. The second half saw Saturn start to settle in to their new team. However, at the start of the final quarter an injury to Jupiter's GK resulted in both teams changing and unsettling Saturn. Jupiter capitalised on this, increasing their lead to 20 goals to win the game 50-30.
Jupiter's Team: Lisa Durant, Becky Cowley, Imma Matcham, Baylea Charles, Amy Shaw, Sammy Kemmish and Paige Davey.Saturn's Team: Sally Haysham, Hannah Symes, Emma Downes, Sammie Woolacott, Emma Reynolds, Rosie Hill, Becky Palmer and used reserve, Hazel Hucker This match was sponsored by The West India House.
Venus 51, Knaves 30
VENUS had another fantastic win this Saturday against Knaves. Playing away at Tor, they played some great netball, dominating the entire game. By half time, Venus had a 25-16 lead due to some outstanding long-range shooting from Lianne Fothergill (GS). The third quarter in particular saw the defence of Coleen Bartlett (GK), Saskia Middleton (GD) and Michelle Stone (WD) really gel, and they battled to keep Knaves scoring only 6 goals. Chris Durant (C), even after dislocating her finger, managed to continue to support the team all the way up the court, leading Venus to a 51-30 victory.
Mars 43, Kestrels 64
STARTING the new year with a match against top of the table Kestrels, Mars got off to a really good start, ending the quarter 14-14. Great effort from the centre court players, Chris Shaw (WA) and Courtney Steele (C), ensured Mars had shooting opportunities, resulting in some fantastic goals from Kayleigh Haste (GS) and Sarah Perry (GA). Unfortunately, despite great play from Mars on a very slippery court, Kestrels took the lead. In the third quarter, Mars' defence showed good form, as Michelle Stone (GD) and Claire Davies (GK) pulled off some timely interceptions. Although Mars played well, Kestrels had the advantage and went on to win the game 64 to 43.
