North Petherton II 34, Bridgwater & Albion II 0

North Petherton Seconds extended their winning streak to four with a clinical win over local rivals Bridgwater, writes Matt Glanville.

In wet and muddy conditions Pethy dominated the territory and possession, scoring six tries in the process to complete a satisfying league double over the visitors.

After ten minutes a superb driving maul from a lineout was finished off by No.8 Simon Ranson, who rolled off the back and powered over from close range. Stevens added an excellent conversion from out on the left to make it 7-0.

The Petherton lineout was functioning well and some strong running by the forwards towards the right corner soon sucked in the visiting defence, and quick ball out to the left was deftly finished off by fly-half Steve Potter, who glided through a gap to score on 16 minutes.

On 25 minutes Cox scored in the right corner, neatly side stepping his man and diving over from close range following a series of rucks and mauls inside the Albion 22.

More excellent rucking and mauling by the home side continued to create space out wide and on 34 minutes Potter again made the most of it to give Pethy a healthy 22-0 lead at the break.

Pethy extended that lead on 65 minutes as centre Sam Chillingworth eluded one tackle 15 metres out and danced his way through.

A series of scrums near the Albion posts eventually yielded a try as Petherton and captain Simon Gingell, now playing at No.8, crashed over from close range with scrum-half Dan Pearce added the extras to make the final score 34-0.

The second team has ended the year well with this win seeing them climb up to fifth position in Somerset One.
