Somerset Senior Cup Quarter Final
Stockwood Green 1 Middlezoy Rovers 1 (Middlezoy won 4-3 on penalties)
GIANTKILLERS Middlezoy Rovers booked their place in the semi-finals of the Somerset Senior Cup thanks to a penalty shoot-out win.
Premier Division side Stockwood Green dominated the opening exchanges but once the game settled down, the teams were well matched and Middlezoy ended the half much the stronger and the sides went in level at half time without score.
The second half began as the first half ended with Middlezoy the stronger of the two sides. The best chances fell to Andy Smith who was denied by an inspired home goal keeper twice but Middlezoy also had their goalkeeper Steve Baker to thank for a point blank save on the hour mark. The game remained goalless and the tired legs of both teams were heading for extra time.
Early in the first period of extra time, after being denied by a goal, Middlezoy’s centre back Scott Turner put them ahead as the ball fell to him in the box from a set-piece.
With moments to go though, the home side got a leveller and the teams went into a penalty shoot-out.
Stockwood went 3-1 ahead on penalties but Steve Hall and Simon Bone made it 3-3 before a great save from Baker and a cool finish from Paul Atyeo polished off the win.
Team: Steve Baker, Lance Turner, Craig Robinson (Simon Bone), Scott Turner, Shaun Turner, Darren Cann (Carl Tucker), Dan Luce, Andy Smith , Aaron Whaites (Charlie Lintell), Steve Hall, Paul Atyeo
