BRIDGWATER'S Liberal Democrat spokesman has reacted to the shock resignation of party chief Sir Menzies Campbell with a tribute to the outgoing head.
Theo Butt Philip has been selected as the party's man to challenge Bridgwater MP Ian Liddell-Grainger for his seat at the next General Election, and says he is "saddened" by Mr Campbell's departure.
He said: "I am deeply personally saddened by Sir Menzies' resignation. Having worked with him on the party policy committee over the course of his leadership I have had the privilege to see him in action.
"Sir Menzies' resignation demonstrates the very qualities which led to the party choosing him as leader. He has been utterly selfless and put the interests of the party first as always."
