WI: MEMBERS got the New Year off to an excellent start with notices of forthcoming events which include a four day visit to Holland and the Keukenhof Gardens, a theatre trip to the Brewhouse in Taunton, a lunch club visit to Puriton and a fashion show here in the village.
The ‘out and about’ theme was then capped by Richard Bradford who, with a beautifully illustrated talk, whisked us from Chedington just inside Dorset to Bridgwater Bay following the River Parrett Trail.
This very popular, clearly way-marked path stretches for 50 miles from its source to its mouth and is now walked by some 4,000 visitors every year! Thankfully, although many walkers complete the trail over four days/three nights, it is possible to cover the distance in a series of small, circular walks –“a string of pearls”, and in the process discover more of the delights of the beautiful surroundings, whether of buildings in all their variety, the dramatic landscapes, the historic monuments or simply the wonderful hostelries and refreshments.
It was altogether a fascinating talk which will have inspired many to go and see for themselves.
We look forward to February 17, when Geoff Hedgeland will talk about Devon Violets – visitors welcome!
