Big Bike Ride Somerset appeal

1:00pm Sunday 29th August 2010

NEXT month, the NSPCC is encouraging people in Somerset get on their bikes and raise money for its Child's Voice Appeal as thousands of people across the country take up the challenge of organising their own Big Bike Ride.

The NSPCC’s 2010 Big Bike Ride is a cycling challenge that sees people from all across the UK organising their own events to raise crucial funds for the charity’s Child's Voice Appeal and help end cruelty to children in the UK.

Taking part couldn’t be easier – simply sign up for your free organisers’ pack at the Big Bike Ride link on this story, set a date and distance and get on your bike.

Your Big Bike Ride can be any type of challenge, from a lap of the local park to a muddy mountain bike trail.

Ask your friends, family and colleagues to join you and get sponsored to raise money for the NSPCC.

The NSPCC launched the Child’s Voice Appeal to answer more cries for help through our national services, ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline.

Its helplines protect children and young people across the UK, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

From April 2008 to March 2009 the ChildLine base in Exeter counselled 2,918 children and young people from across the UK and during the same period the NSPCC Helpline received 671 calls from adults in Somerset.

Lucy Hale, Big Bike Ride project manager, said: “Organising your own Big Bike Ride could not be easier and we encourage people of all ages and abilities to take part.

"Any distance makes a difference to children and young people who are dealing with the trauma of abuse.”
