PEOPLE in Somerset have been challenged to raise £62,000 – by drinking coffee.
Fans of a cuppa in the county can help Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Money raised will fund local cancer services, supporting those affected by cancer across Somerset.
In 2009 there were more than 400 Macmillan coffee mornings held across Somerset, raising £50,000.
This year the charity is hoping more people will hold a coffee morning to help fund local cancer services.
Macmillan fundraising manager for Somerset Claire Allen said: “Macmillan is there to help from the moment someone is diagnosed with cancer and the support we provide is vital.
“We have a number of Macmillan professionals across the county and in Taunton specifically, Macmillan cancer nurse specialists supporting those patients undergoing treatment at the new Beacon Centre.
Taking part is easy – the main event is on September 24 but that’s not possible, then pick another day. If you’re not keen on coffee and would rather have cocktails or a herbal tea, that’s allowed.
You can also support the cause by popping into Marks and Spencer, the official partner of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, through August and September.
Until September 25, every M&S Café will donate 10% of the value of a range of products, while on the main fundraising day, September 24, the cafes will donate 50p for every coffee sold.
