WATCHING your waistline this Christmas just got harder, thanks to a supermarket giant.

Asda is launching a footlong chocolate eclair which is as long as three, standard-sized eclairs lengthways, and twice the height, making it six times as big as your usual creamy treat.

The colossal choux pastry creation will hit store shelves on December 14 and will only cost you £5.

The pastry treat is made with deliciously light choux pastry, filled with fluffy Belgian chocolate mousse and sticky caramel sauce and topped with a chocolate fondant.

For the finishing touch of festive magic, it’s then drizzled with even more delectable caramel and dusted with gold.

The mammoth dessert is the brainchild of Asda’s bakery team, born during a recent innovation trip to Paris.

Whilst chomping their way through the crème de la crème of Parisian patisseries, they uncovered an emerging trend for oversized sharing desserts.

The supermarket giant has also launched a giant Marie Antoinette inspired Macaron cake.

The pretty in pink frozen gateau is already available in Asda stores for £8 and is stuffed with a white chocolate mousse, topped with raspberries and a light sprinkling of pistachios for a delicious finish.

Claire Reed, product development manager for chilled bakery, said: “Straight from the streets of Paris to Asda shelves, traditional French favourites can now be enjoyed by the whole family this Christmas.

"Our experts have lovingly hand finished our striking new desserts, adding the final touch of affordable luxury to your seasonal soirée – sure to leave your loved ones saying Oh La La."
