SOMERSET County Council is set to bill council taxpayers an extra 3.99 per cent in the year from April.

The authority's cabinet will discuss the increase - which includes two per cent for adult social care - at its meeting on Monday.

If full council approves the budget, it would mean an average Band D householder paying £1,111.95 next year.

County Hall is planning for a revenue budget requirement of £311,772,100.

The bill will also include a £12.84 levy to help fund Somerset Rivers Authority.

Taunton Deane Borough Council has already announced plans to put up its share of the council tax demand by 3.5 per cent, raising the average Band D property annual levy in the district by £5 to £149.62 for the year from April.

The police and fire authorities have yet to announce their share of the overall bill.
