BE PREPARED for some potentially wild weather later this week.

The Met Office has issued a warning for strong winds and heavy rains across the South West - including Somerset - for Friday (February 3).

Gusts of 60 to 70 mph have been predicted, and there's the possibility that these could reach over 80 mpg in coastal areas.

There's also a warning that the winds could damage trees, buildings and the Met Office has said there could also be possible disruption to power supplies and travel delays.

The chief forecaster said: "A number of potentially vigorous low pressure systems are likely to move quickly towards northwest Europe later this week.

"One of these, on Friday, may affect parts of southern parts of the UK.

"However it is worth stressing that there are a number of scenarios in which the strongest winds miss the UK altogether.

"Even so, spells of wet and windy weather will be affecting many areas later this week."
