A NEW charity appeal for Taunton's homeless is being launched by ladies across Somerset.

The Somerset Ladies in Business is a networking group for employed and self-employed women across the county.

The group hopes to raise support for two charities in Taunton, Open Door and Taunton Association for the Homeless (TAH).

The appeal is offering four different options for individuals and businesses to donate. It includes filling a bag for life from any store with gift wrapped goodies, creating a 'reverse advent calendar' box, or clearing out clutter and unused items.

Dawn Stephenson, sales promotions executive for Newsquest SW, said “ The Somerset Business Ladies are calling on everyone in the business community to support this appeal which is so important at this time of year.

"The homeless is a community problem and by offering support in this way to Open Door, we are ensuring that everyone will have a chance to enjoy the festive season.

"The aim of this small gesture lead by the Somerset Business Ladies will become one of the biggest charitable appeals to be launched locally.

"There are so many ways to get involved, so please share the link, follow on social media and show your support to the Somerset Business Ladies Christmas appeal.

"On behalf of the County Gazette , I am very pleased to support the Somerset Business Ladies appeal - Bag for Life to Help a Life and I hope every businesses will now support and get involved."

Rosie Hather, fundraising and communications officer for TAH, said: "As the temperature drops and Christmas approaches, life can seem cruel for some.

"Whilst most of us are celebrating, our clients can find this time of the year the most difficult.

"That's why it's our aim to ensure that our clients have a smile on their face this Christmas, but we can't do it without the help of the kind public.

"We are thrilled that Somerset Ladies in Business are putting so much hard work into ensuring the local homeless get what they need and deserve this Christmas.

"They're really helping us to make sure it's a happy Christmas for all and thank you to everyone involved."
