THE Wilko store on East Street in Taunton is appealing to local people to get in touch with their inner ‘twitcher’, by entering a competition to create a fun bird box design.

The competition is part of Wilko’s ‘Wild Bird’ campaign, which encourages children and adults to look out for and protect wildlife in their own gardens throughout the winter months, and is open to people of all age.

From multi-storey bird palaces, to cutting-edge modern mansions, entrants will be asked to ‘think outside of the box’ when it comes to design, with one lucky winner walking away with a year’s worth of bird food, a bird table and special ‘twitcher’s pack’, filled with plenty of gardening essentials.

Shaun Boore, store manager, said: “Our Wild Bird campaign is all about getting people from across the community to start thinking more about their surrounding wildlife and what they can do to care for it during the chilly, winter months. When it’s cold, it’s more important than ever to provide shelter for our feathered friends, along with leaving out nutritious, high-fat bird food and fresh water.

“We’re looking for fun, different and creative bird box designs that will really stand out from the crowd. The winning entrant will be rewarded with a whole host of goodies from our wildlife and garden range, all of which will be perfect for helping both amateurs and enthusiasts spot plenty of wild birds, in their natural habitat.”

Entries must be submitted on A4 paper by Friday (February 20) and can be e-mailed to wildbird@tangerinepr.com or posted to Tangerine, Giant’s Basin, Potato Wharf, Castlefield, Manchester, M3 4NB. Alternatively, they can also be dropped into the Taunton store.
