POLICE have arrested a 59-year-old man in connection with the aggravated burglary and sexual assault that took place in Dunwear Lane, Bridgwater on January 21.

The man remains in police custody at this time and is helping officers with their enquiries.

Between 7.50am and 8.15am on Wednesday, January 21, an unknown man went into a house in the Dunwear Lane area of town through an insecure door.

While inside, the man tied up a woman and her child and threatened them with a knife.

A sexual assault then took place.

The man, who was wearing a balaclava-type mask over his face, demanded money and jewellery but police believe he left the house empty-handed.

Last week police released new CCTV footage of a man they wanted to speak to in connection to the incident.

The independent charity Crimestoppers has issued a reward of up to £5,000 for information given to them via their anonymous telephone number 0800 555 111 or anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org, which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person reponsible.
