YOU can get your will written for at Will Management Services of Taunton, during October – in exchange for a donation to the British Liver Trust.

Linda Fisher, of Will Management Services, decided to support the charity after learning that liver disease is the fifth largest cause of death in the UK, with one in ten deaths of people in their 40s linked to it.

The British Liver Trust, which is supporting growing numbers of patients, aims to raise awareness of all the causes of liver disease and encourage people to keep their liver healthy by running awareness campaigns.

Jo, who is living with an auto immune liver condition, was struck down with liver disease in April 2013, although she now realises she had been displaying the symptoms of the disease about a year before that.

She said: “In 2013 I suffered acute liver failure. I had been taking antibiotics for several years for water infections and this is believed to have started the autoimmune condition which led to my liver failure.

“I had been exhausted for about 12 months, but put it down to being a full-time project manager and mother.

“I was vomiting, feeling very unwell, shaking and needing to eat, seeing things in the dark and my eyes/skin turned yellow “At my local hospital they sent me home and told me to return four days later for a scan.

“My fiancé took me back to A&E the next day and I got admitted straightaway.

“I was then potentially looking at a liver transplant.

“I have been unable to work for the past 12 months and lost my job at the end of March 2014.

“Every day is hard and I wake up feeling like I have been hit by a truck.

“I get exhausted easily and feel like an old lady in a young woman’s body.

“From the steroids and trauma it has started further problems connected with muscles/joints/connective tissue and my mobility is decreased.

“I just want to be the person I was, running around at a million miles an hour.

“I take medication and do physio - the treatment I receive and the ongoing support is second to none.

“I feel strongly that all liver disease is presumed to be alcohol-related and there is a massive stigma.

“My aim is to raise awareness of non-alcohol related liver disease, people like myself where taking prescription medication brought on my condition.”

Linda Fisher, of Will Management Services, said: “We are delighted to be supporting British Liver Trust in this way.

“Making a Will gives you peace of mind and helps your loved ones at a difficult time.

“Getting involved and telling more people about possible risks to the liver and causes of liver disease can only be a good thing.”
