GREEN-fingered students from Bridgwater College have been presented with 50 tree saplings to go towards a sustainable garden project in the College’s Childcare Centre.
The group of Green Pioneers, who are all volunteers from the College’s Entry Studies programme, were given the saplings by Monkton Elm Garden and Pet Centre in Monkton Heathfield.
The company, which employs a Horticulture Apprentice who trains at Bridgwater College, was looking for worthwhile community projects to support and decided the College would be a worthy recipient.
Head of Access, Science and Humanities at the College, Louise Rowley, said: “This is a very generous gift from Monkton Elm and the students were delighted to collect the saplings.
“They are now looking forward to getting them planted and continuing with their project to improve the sustainability of our Childcare Centre’s garden.”
The garden in the Childcare Centre will be re-landscaped and an area will be planted for the children to grow (and eat) their own vegetables, and also to create a space where they can sit and relax.
