STUDENTS and staff from Bridgwater College travelled to the House of Commons to attend a special ceremony.
The group were guests at college principal Fiona McMillan's inauguration as National President of the Association of Colleges.
They were met at the iconic parliamentary building by Bridgwater MP Ian Liddell-Grainger and Luton North MP Kelvin Hopkins.
Fiona was elected by fellow principals from the association's 412 member colleges and she will hold the role, alongside her duties at Bridgwater College, for a year.
Derek Randal, who has been chair of governors at the college for 15 years, was also appointed chair of the South-West Region of the Association of Colleges.
Fiona said: “I am delighted to have been elected as president and I am looking forward to my period of office.
“Along with Derek's regional role, I hope that we will be able to influence decision making in government and parliament regarding issues that affect the further education sector, during what is a critical time for colleges following the proposed cuts in government spending.”
