HAYGROVE School has become the first school in Somerset to receive national accreditation for its e-safety provision – the way staff and students are helped to stay safe on-line.

Assessors from 360 degree safe, part of the South West Grid for Learning and supported by the University of Plymouth, visited Haygrove last month and assessed 24 aspects of how the school supports students, staff, governors and the local community in staying safe on-line.

The assessors said there was “a clear commitment to embedding e-safety across the school and the wider community with a strong ethos and commitment to e-safety throughout all school activities.”

The school is one of only 14 nationwide to receive the accreditation.

Students at Haygrove take a lead in all aspects of the school’s e-safety provision, from providing drop-in sessions at lunchtime, where they support younger students, to attending every parents’ evening and open evening, where they hand out leaflets and give their expertise to parents and carers.

Head teacher Karen Canham said: “I am extremely proud of all of the work that has gone into e-safety at Haygrove and continues to do so.

“We take the safeguarding of all members of our school community incredibly seriously and this award helps to show just a small part of the outstanding practice that goes on here.”
