NERVOUS year seven students at Chilton Trinity Technology College in Bridgwater overcame the stress of starting life at a new school with help from a group of local actors.
The Red Rubber Band Theatre Company visited the school to present Moving Up and showcased various scenarios depicting the worries some students have when they move up to a new school.
Students were given a series of follow up workshops to act out and discuss various themes with each other to help them settle into new friendship groups.
Tim Williams, student support coordinator, said: “We place significant importance on ensuring that our new students feel confident, secure and supported as they begin at their new school.
“This has really helped to show that it is actually quite normal to feel a little nervous, yet at the same time, know that there are lots of support mechanisms in place to help you.”
The theatre company director, based at the Bridgwater Arts Centre, Charlie Deardon said it was an exciting way to introduce new pupils to the issues around moving schools.
The event was funded by a grant from county councillor Ann Bown distributed by the Sedgemoor Learning Alliance.
