Poetry week at St Joseph's School

3:39pm Tuesday 16th February 2010

A POET visited St Joseph's School armed with a guitar and a wealth of poetry to entertain the young students during poetry week.

James Carter spent the day encouraging the children to write their own poems.

Younger children learned some of his poems off by heart with actions to help them, including the favourite action of the day - the bug hug.

Older children were introduced to a form of poem called a 'kenning' invented by the Vikings and the oldest pupils wrote poems about space.

The day finished with a whole school poetry reading session everyone had a great time.

Other work in poetry week included making t-shirts, rhyming, learning poems off by heart and inventing new work.
