STUNNING stories and amazing authors was the focus for St Mary’s Primary School pupils on a visit to Haygrove School.
Year 5 pupils went along for the Big Book Breakfast event designed to get youngsters talking about books, with Haygrove Library ringing with lively conversations about favourite books and characters.
The children took along their most treasured books and the story they were currently reading so they could share with their friends what makes a really good children’s book.
Students enjoyed dipping into books by David Walliams, Jacqueline Wilson and JK Rowling with classic children’s authors Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl also proving popular.
Emily Smith, from St Mary’s Primary School, told the Mercury: “It was great to be able to talk about my favourite Harry Potter books and I have also found out a bit more about what it will be like if I decide to come to Haygrove School.
“I was really impressed by how advanced their reading was,“ said Haygrove student Livvy Payne.
“They were able to talk very knowledgeably about the stories they were reading and we never ran out of things to talk about.”
