TWO Art, Design and Media students at Bridgwater College will be entering a prestigious tailoring competition after gaining sponsorship from Fox Brothers & Co Ltd.

Gina Boswell and Karen Adams, who specialise in fashion and textiles, have submitted entries to the Savile Row Bespoke Tailoring competition, The Golden Shear Awards.

They will compete against students from other colleges, universities and employed trainee tailors for a chance to be shortlisted for the March final.

To enter, the girls have designed and manufactured a twopiece tailored garment set, and had to submit professionally marked patterns and an illustration of their final design.

If they are successful in gaining a place in the final 24 their outfits will be showcased on the catwalk in front of a judging panel of industry professionals and celebrity guests with a chance to win up to £2,500. The garments will be produced using fabric supplied by Fox Brothers & Co.

Becci McErlain, programme manager for fashion and textiles at the college, said: “It’s the first time the college has entered such a prestigious competition.

“We’re keen to give our students as much experience as possible in all areas of fashion and textiles, particularly building skills, which have recently been highlighted by employers as in decline, to support the huge industry and job roles available to our students in the future.

“The girls have worked exceptionally hard with support from staff to meet the high demands of skill required, and we all wish them the best of luck.”
