A GROUP of second year BTEC level 3 countryside and environment students from Bridgwater College have had the opportunity to see firsthand how peat is used in the production of high-quality produce in the horticulture industry at E J Godwin Peat Industries Ltd in Glastonbury.

Ben Malin, the company’s director, gave the group a guided tour of the factory production line, which was in full swing bagging compost for the 2015 growing season.

The tour incorporated all aspects of the production process from harvesting and mixing the product to the mechanised bagging line and preparation for sale.

The group was also given the opportunity to visit the adjoining restored peat-lands which are now a thriving nature habitat and site of special scientific interest.
