HAYGROVE School has joined an elite group after being accredited as a “Thinking School”.
Only 20 other UK secondary schools from both the state and private sector share the title.
Haygrove says being a Thinking School means students and staff are actively embracing thinking processes that are reflective, critical and creative, and are using these skills and techniques to improve education.
Jeff Woodason, Haygrove's head of religious education/humanities, led a team of Haygrove students and staff called the Wranglers, who acted as Thinking School champions to spread the word about why it was important, and to help the school achieve its status.
This was formally achieved this year, following an evaluation by Professor Bob Burden and Sue Chedzoy from the University of Exeter's Cognitive Education Development Unit.
Mr Woodason said: “This is only the first step on our mission to continually improve the high-quality educational experience offered at Haygrove.
“We are already building on this success and thinking of ways to further develop as a 'Thinking School' and share our learning with our local primary schools.”
