A BRIDGWATER College horticulture student has secured his dream role straight from college – tending 13 acres of parkland at the Nynehead Court estate near Wellington.

Matt Hanson has just completed a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Horticulture at the college’s Cannington Centre, and began work as the second gardener at Nynehead Court this month.

The estate comprises a care home, close care housing and an orangery within extensive grounds with a walled pinetum, a parterre, many species of rare trees, and plants which are estimated to be 100 years old.

Matt will have the opportunity to develop his skills under the tutelage of head gardener Justin Cole, a well-known figure, who hosts regular tours of Nynehead Court’s grounds. Home manager Angela Watkins said: “Tending our beautiful grounds was a very popular employment opportunity, and we received many applications for the role.

“We are delighted to have employed Matt and enabled a young man to pursue his chosen career straight from college.”
