THREE Bridgwater College students have designed and produced a website and social media pages for a fair trade jewellery shop.

Glastonbury-based Padma contacted the college asking for help to improve its online presence, and the design brief was put out to 20 business and computing students.

They were split into smaller teams and the winners were computing students Chris Evans, Chris Ross and Bradley Chinn.

All the students involved received Amazon vouchers, but the three winners also got a Google Nexus 7 tablet and a wallet made from recycled tyres containing £100 from Padma as a thank you.

Padma were so impressed they have asked the college to consider another project in September, enabling the next batch of students to gain some valuable work experience.

Chris Evans, 18, said: “When starting this project, I had no idea how successful we would be. Five months on we have a website up and running on schedule.

“Throughout the project I have been challenged with leading the design and implementation of a prototype website and I have also had a part in the technical side of the project, which I have thoroughly enjoyed.”

Bradley, 17, added: “I have really enjoyed the experience of working with both a team and a real business on this project and I have gained confidence and determination to pursue a career within IT and computing.”

Karen Skittrall, lecturer, said: “It has been a pleasure working with the students on this project; they have been totally committed and have worked really hard to achieve the website re-launch on time, gaining valuable real life experience with employers.

“I would also like to thank Padma Glastonbury for the opportunity that they have given to the students.”
