Bridgwater mum and daughter 'thrown off bus'

Bridgwater mum and daughter 'thrown off bus' Bridgwater mum and daughter 'thrown off bus'

A YOUNG mother from Bridgwater claims she was thrown off a bus because the driver said her two-year-old daughter’s crying was too distracting.

Carley Brown, 20, said she had to walk in the cold for almost an hour after getting off the number 14 bus just five minutes after boarding.

First Bus, which operates the service, admits its driver did stop the bus to ask Carley to calm her daughter Evie-Mai down but insist he did not ask her to get off. The company has apologised to Carley over the incident.

SEE this week's Bridgwater Mercury for the full story.

last week on the bus from taunton a man threatened to break a 70 year old womans jaw because she accidently brushed past him, the only girl to stand up for her on a bus load of people was a 17 year old and for the entire journey back he threatened to beat her up the minute she stepped off the bus! the man and i use that word pretty reluctantly in my opinion had a severe mental health issue and although the driver told him to stop swearing he was allowed for the next half hour all the way back to town
to carry on riding the bus despite the other passengers fear of him! at the bus station in bw thankfully police were waitin and said he was well known to them, no surprises there then! i guess a 2 year old is more of a threat to society nowadays because that man should never be allowed to step on another bus for the rest of his life! the old lady couldnt get off the bus at bw as she was so afraid!

Nice try maryrose.
The police were waiting for him?
Suggests that the driver called it in and took him to right them - good man.
Sounds like a very good idea, rather than kick/let him off to chase down an unsuspecting victim.
That's a completely different (and totally irrelevant) point to the one being made in this article.
The child was distracting the driver. No different to an unruly lout or a drunk.
What's the most important thing a driver shoud be able to do? Concentrate. That's what.
Otherwise, think of the potential headline that you could troll, eh maryrose?
"30 people killed when bus driver loses control after being distracted".......
If the child couldn't calm down then it's right that she leaves. Immediately.
It's unpleasant for other riders, and most importantly, distracting for the driver. Let's not forget he has the responsibility of the lives of all the people on his bus, and other road users and members of the public.
Why did she have to walk? Out of principle/spite/juic
y headlines I guess.
Surely she could have got off the bus, calmed the child down and then got on the next bus?
Slow news day I guess...

Bring back the old buses, let the driver have a sound-proof cab and reintroduce bus conductors!

The facts (as reported in the Murky) are that he did NOT ask her to get off.
Someone needs to check THEIR facts before posting a poorly thought out retort.
The #14 goes from Cannington to the bus station and back, she didn't know where she was? How did she find her way home??
The fact remains that a driver has the right to do his job safely and without distraction for the safety of all INCLUDING the woman and her child.
Echo, RustyKnight - good call.

lol,you guys...cmon..it was safer for him to get her to leave the bus because he couldnt concentrate lol????thats a laughable excuse,,,,as a driver i would feel less calm and would not be able to concentrate with a nasty bit of work, threatening my passengers and acting abusive,i think the public on the bus were in a more dangerous situation then the ones on a bus with a child crying!!!not only was that guy putting the driver off,he was also threatening to hurt other passengers,so your point is invalid!!what happens on a plane when a chilld crys? What happens when your on a motorway and your child/baby crys?we dont all pull onto the hard shoulder do we?what he done is totally un-necessary!!!

Yes the facts stated that he did not ask her to get off..but is he going to tell the truth, I think not! He's going to protect himself as much as possible! As there is no right he has to kick a mother and a child off the bus for crying. It's public transport they must deal with these sort of things every day, fair enough if the mother was shouting or being rude but it was just a child crying how pathetic can the man be!

Ohdearithappenedagai
n the problem with people like you is the facts you talk of are what you have read have you spoken to anyone concerned with this story ie carlee or evie my guess is no, the bus driver shouldnt be driving if a child crying is enough to cause him to be distracted andi bet you he wouldnt have done it if it was evie and her dad on the
bus. You strike me as a typical keyboard warrior who doesnt live in the real world where things like this SHOULD not happen you quote so called facts said by a man trying to keep himself out of trouble what would carlee gain by makong this up andif you ask me carlee did the right thing by going to the mercury she has certainly delt with the situation better than i would have!

You are correct, sir.
I do indeed speak of the facts as reported here.
It is not my job to go round to people's houses and investigate these issues and check whether or not the article is correct before commenting.
That would be the job of the MERCURY JOURNALIST!!
I assume (rightly or wrongly) that they have done their job properly, and presented the full facts as investigated here for us to digest and comment on if necessary.
Therefore, if it is reported that the bus driver said he didn't ask her to get off, then he didn't.
Problem?

Tbh he's a bus driver, public transport..everyday screaming children, rude passengers, drunk people get on the bus and probably all bus drivers get distracted by something everyday but they can't just tell people to get off everyday..a child crying is not an excuse for a distraction..people drive everyday with there children in the back of there cars, they don't pull over every time there child cries! It's ridiculous and there is no way what he did was right what so ever!!

The driver would have been correct to ask her to leave if the child had been distracting and the mother was NOT TRYING to calm her down, If she was then he is in the worng! But he should be able to cope with the crying no matter how loud it was as he take a full double decker of college students(that are not the quietest) to and from minehead everyday down the A38 whick in a bus is a very difficult road to drive in quiet let alone with them noisey s****. I should know being an ex driver. Also he also allows students to talk to him on this bus so if he cant hanle a crying baby then he has problems!

How did the Mercury find out about this story that would be interesting to know. I was wondering if Carley approached them or did the Mercury contact Carley. Either way it would be good to have all facts from both sides of the story. I don't know either person involved and only go on what is written by the Mercury but it doesn't look like this is a fair article on either side to form a judgement.

What an absolute joke! Front page crap when a pedo story is put to page 13. Come on!

First bus drivers are some of the nicest people I have ever met and some are not so nice.

Driving a bus is not the easiest thing to do.

Maybe the
Mercury should look out of their window and see all the cars illegally parked causing all these poor drivers to struggle get by.

To all of you who think all bus drivers are scum maybe you should do
The job for a day!

Have done it for a while, politness costs nothing and i say again, some of the Bridgwater staff need retraining at the First groups accadmy of politness. Hurling abuse out of a drivers window to someone taking photographs with a bus load of passengers, only belittles the driver concerned...........
..Oh and i really must witness these drivers getting past illegal parked cars, they get through with pleanty of space, just sit in the high street and watch them.

This is absoultly perfectic for a front page news story maybe the bus driver was in the wrong but nobody knows the whole story. If it wasnt for these bus drivers that people are slating then most of the elderly wouldnt be able to get around and do there shopping at least first is reliable maybe there staff aint polite but that might be because of all the hazzle they get of passengers when prices go up or something changes on routes have you ever thought it werent the bus drivers fault they take all the slag. Also why should a bus driver be happy when someone is takin a picture of them on the bus its there rights you wouldnt want someone takin pictures of u if u didnt want them being a mum of two and thinking about this womens situation she must of been near a bus stop at the time of this on the route somewhere bein a town bus there is one regularly so why didnt she wait a little and explained her situation too another bus driver not all bus drivers are the same.

ah I've just read the local rag and see there is more on this story than the article online the bit about claims she was thrown off the bus is interesting as the article in the paper says the driver pulled over and gave her time to try and calm the child down. If that is true it sounds a very sensible thing of the driver to do. It then mentions that the child didn't calm down so the Mother decided to jump off the bus. So we have hear two different stories or sides then. Again mentions in the paper dropped at Bower or got off at Bower. Thats hardly in the middle of nowhere then I live on the estate and the next bus is about 30 mins wait and its about 1 mile to the center of town about 30 mins walk so I don't get the bit about no knowing where you are loads of signs about saying Bower Manor. Cannot be local if you don't know where Bower is and don't know where you are dropped off too unless the Mercury front page news is incorrect. I agree no way is this worth front page news it would have been nice if the article online also had the drivers comments who surely has a right to defend himself after all there are two sides to the story let people make their own minds up but at least post his comments online as well. Personally I am more upset at the thought of someone killing cats in Bridgwater than someone who just didn't have enough money to get on the next bus going and that didn't make news until several pages in.

er, the number 14 DOES go to Bower and then to the station and then to Cannington and Rabbit1, if you are in a public setting then you do not need anyone's consent to photograph them. How do you think CCTV works?
