THE detective who investigated Burland’s crimes said he hopes the sentence would make him realise the seriousness of his actions.
The former scout leader is now behind bars following a string of historical sexual abuse against young boys and girls.
Detective constable Mark Fudge said: “I hope he now realises the seriousness of these offences and the impact his behaviour has had on his victims.”
He praised the victims for their bravery to come forward.
He said: “Someone did report his inappropriate behaviour and an investigation was quickly launched. This uncovered other victims and I applaud them all for the strength it must have taken to come forward.
“This demonstrates that we take all disclosures of abuse seriously and will explore them thoroughly.”
The offences included 18 counts of indecent assault, two counts of indecency with a child, nine counts of sexual activity with a child, three counts of sexual assault with a child and one count of indecent exposure.
