Wessex Water responds to business complaints

WESSEX Water has responded to complaints from businesses in North Street in Bridgwater who claim they have been badly affected by the roadworks outside their doors.

The water firm said it had visited the companies affected before the work started, and had tried to keep disruption to a minimum during its £10million Operation Clean and Clear project.

A spokesman said: “Wessex Water personally visited businesses in North Street before work began to give traders an opportunity to feed back any concerns.

“The water main network which supplies the street is complex so it was challenging to identify exactly which properties would be affected by water supply interruptions.

“Businesses which rely on water to trade were advised that a temporary supply would be available during the work to ensure any supply interruptions would not adversely impact their customers.

“Fortunately in this case supplies to many businesses were maintained and passing trade continued as North Street was open to traffic travelling westbound.”

Hmmm.. passing trade Westbound - ah, yes you can park on the double yellows!

Sounds like the Wessex Water spokesperson has never visited Bridgwater....

Great idea to start all this when the schools are back, eh!

Hmmm.. Sounds like CUPRA, HOME hasn’t visited North Street either.

The diverted west bound traffic passes adjacent to the lay-by outside the shops and can therefore park if there is space to do so.

The double yellow lines are within the road works area.

Wessex Water have wrecked havoc on the western side of Bridgwater perhaps they should now cancel our water charges for a month as a goodwill gesture.

Thanks JoRo, you've illustrated just why the shops are suffering!
I have avoided this stretch because of the 'chaos' at peak times, so I am ignorant (as must be a lot of people who are also avoiding this stretch) of the layout! Wessex water should be doing better....

I've just come along the canal towpath under the Wembdon Road bridge and there's water pouring through the brickwork (just under the spot where they recently installed a very large valve.) I told the men in North Street and was assured that everything was OK - they were flushing the pipes! And I always assumed that they flushed the INSIDE of the pipes. Silly me.

Disagree sorry, they could do it and have it done in half the time, by working a evening and night shift (24hrs), motorway work is carried out like this, but we have to remember this is a privatised company, and the more money they pay out the less the greedy fat cats and shareholders will have.
