Those were the days: what happened in Bridgwater 25 years ago

A WORKER at British Cellophane was caught up in the escalation of the Iraq/Iran war.

Troubleshooter John Silby, who was living in Goathurst near Bridgwater, had been in Iraq sorting out problems for a firm, which printed cellophane, when the fighting started.

The Government cancelled all British air flights over both territories.

FOR more magical memories of Bridgwater's history, including why a popular junior show had to be cancelled 15 years ago, pick up a copy of this week's Bridgwater Mercury - out tomorrow.
