A TALENTED Bridgwater student has continued a family tradition by winning the carnival concert judges’ cup 50 years to the day since his grandad did the same.

Ashley Quinn, 17, won the best vocalist cup on what would have been his grandfather Cyril’s 80th birthday. It is thought to be the first time two generations of the same family have won the award.

Cyril Quinn, who died in 1996, was head of the carnival committee for some time, involved in the now defunct Pig and Whistle club and compered the concerts himself, won the cup in 1962.

Ashley is pictured with a photograph of his grandfather Cyril.
