A CANCER charity has thanked a 13-year-old girl who took centre stage at a fundraising event which has now raised more than £11,500.

As reported in the Mercury, the Gig in the Garden at Stowey Court in Nether Stowey attracted 260 people who crammed into a marquee and donated money to CLIC Sargent.

Francesca Smith, lead singer of band Young Generation, which took centre stage at the event, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at the age of 21 months.

She has been supporting CLIC Sargent to repay the charity for the way it has supported her and her parents.

Kiren Fernandes, fundraising manager for CLIC Sargent, thanked Francesca and also Mike and Viv Haynes, who hosted the gig in their garden.

Kiren said: “This would not have been possible without the generosity of Mike and Viv Haynes and their fantastic army of volunteers.

“Of course, a massive thank you also goes to Francesca, her family and friends for their continued support of CLIC Sargent.”

Viv and Mike have also thanked everyone who helped support the charity – to donate visit justgiving.com/CLICgiginthegarden
