MUSIC fans hoping to bag tickets to next year’s Glastonbury Festival faced a challenge as it sold out in a record time of just under two hours.

Thousands of fans rushed to the website and phone lines when tickets went on sale at 9am on Sunday but all 140,000 tickets were sold by 10.40am.

Organisers apologised to disappointed fans via Twitter, adding there had been problems with some people getting through ‘due to the sheer volume of people’.

Michael Eavis posted a statement on Twitter saying: “We’re genuinely humbled by the sheer number of people who would like to come to the festival and we dearly wish we could have you all along.

“Sadly, that just isn’t possible, which means a significant number have missed out. Demand simply outstripped supply.”

Tickets for next June’s festival at Worthy Farm cost £205 plus a booking fee and returned tickets will be on sale in April 2013.

o CARNIVAL Clubs in Bridgwater have told the Mercury they are looking forward to next year’s event as it helps them to raise funds for their clubs. Glastonbury Festival was not held this year and fundraisers faced an extra challenge to make up for lost revenue.
