A ‘GIG in the Garden’ event has raised over £9,500 for children and young people with cancer.

The event, at Stowey Court, Nether Stowey, drew a crowd of around 250 and showcased Somerset musicians, including Simon Harris and Julian Dawson.

Taking centre stage was Young Generation, winner of Bridgwater’s Battle of the Bands, whose lead singer, Francesca Smith, organised the event to raise funds for CLIC Sargent, who supported her family after she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia aged 21 months.

She said: “I was very young when I was diagnosed, but I know CLIC Sargent’s support was very important to my mum and dad.

“I’m still in touch with the nurses, doctors and social workers who treated me, and some of them were at the event”.

The day included a display of classic and supercars, the chance of a spin in an Aston Martin DB9 and an auction with prizes including a week’s accommodation in Florida.

Three Olympic torch bearers posed for photos with guests who made donations to the charity.
