A CONCERNED resident has rallied parents of children from Westover Green School into signing a petition calling for improvements to a nearby crossing.

William Taylor, 70, from West Street, received 80 signatures for the petition, campaigning for hedges to be trimmed and traffic light timings to be extended at the crossing on Wembdon Road.

Mr Taylor said: “I’m concerned for the safety of the children who use it. “I’ve heard from a lot of parents, who have signed the petition which I posted to County Hall on July 5.

“All we want is for a couple of seconds to be added to the traffic lights and adequate visibility for the crossing.”

A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: “We have received Mr Taylor’s petition and can confirm that he will receive a full written response within our 20 working day reply timeframe for petitions, i.e. by August 3.”
