FAMILIES in Sydenham were the first to take part in a scheme to improve community areas across Sedgemoor.

People had the opportunity to hear about the Sydenham Neighbourhood Plan from Homes in Sedgemoor staff and other partners through the ‘Out and About’ scheme.

The plan aims to create new jobs and training opportunities, support families with money problems and provide two new allotment projects on the estate.

Dawn Lang, chief executive at Homes in Sedgemoor, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to share our plans for Sydenham and to encourage residents to come forward and be part of our focus on the community.”

The event saw people teaming up for litter picking, clearing gardens, and planting bulbs to brighten up the area next spring.

A number of skips were also made available for residents to use free of charge, and many people embraced the opportunity to get rid of unwanted bulky items.

A vacant shop on Parkway was used for the day and offered free face painting and mural painting for children.
