VILLAGERS in Puriton are celebrating after funding was secured for £58,000 of new play facilities.

The scheme will include a new table tennis table, a boules court, and new swings and slides on the playing fields by the village hall.

The Puriton Playing Fields committee has been working on the project for 18 months, and work could now begin within two months.

Sharon Tait, from the playing fields committee, said: “Our funding is all in place. We've had money from Sedgemoor District Council, Viridor, and Puriton Parish Council.

“We should be starting towards the end of September and it will all be done by the end of October.”

The village's current play equipment has reached the end of its natural life, and Sharon said there were requests from villagers for new facilities that could be used by people of all ages.

She said: “The idea of having an outdoor table tennis table and a boules court is that mum, dad, and gran can all play with the kids - it's not just for children.”
