PLANS to turn a massive area of Bridgwater - the size of more than 60 football pitches - into a giant eco-park could bring jobs to the town and cut anti-social behaviour.

That is the view of Sedgemoor District Council, which is on the verge of agreeing a 20-year masterplan for around 100 acres of marshy fields to the west of the town known as The Meads.

The project could see:

  • New wetlands, ponds, trees and wildflower meadows to attract more wildlife
  • New cycle paths, footpaths and play equipment, including zip wires
  • New picnic areas and benches
  • A community farm
  • A green gym and art displays and exhibitions.

The Meads is split into eight geographical areas, which cover most of the area south of Haygrove School and west of Robert Blake Science College.

Tomorrow (July 11), Sedgemoor District Council's executive could effectively give the scheme the go-ahead by approving a Supplementary Planning Document for The Meads.
