TRIBUTES have been paid to a 27-year-old cyclist who died following a collision with a lorry just yards from his home in Bridgwater.

Dean Biddiscombe, who has been described as “a great, unique guy,” was involved in the incident in Bath Road, near the Morrisons distribution centre, on Friday.

Dean was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol with massive injuries but later died.

The lorry driver, a 30-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and was later released on police bail.

Dean's friend and former colleague Mark Solanki set up a Facebook page for people to pay tribute the former Bridgwater College student, who worked in the media.

He wrote: “This is for our memories [of] a great, unique guy, who always had a smile on his face and made sure those around him were smiling.”

Mr Solanki described Dean as “kind, warm, smart and very funny”.

Dean, who is survived by his mum Laura, dad John and sister Donna, is understood to have worked for the BBC in London, in advertising, but moved home at Christmas.

Dean's neighbours Fred and Ann Cox said his death was tragic.

Mrs Cox said: “He was a lovely lad and you couldn't say a bad word about him. He always spoke, was polite and would do anything for anyone.

“He was to start a new job and it's really tragic.”

Diane Wilson said: “Dean was a wonderful young man. He ran our local church youth club and was loved by all the kids, probably because he was the biggest kid of the lot. "He had a big personality and a smile to match. We will miss him a great deal, and our church will never be quite the same again.”

A spokesman for Morrisons said: “A lorry from a supplier to Morrisons was involved in a collision with a cyclist on Friday afternoon.

“We are assisting with the police in their enquiries and would like to extend our sympathy to the friends and family of the cyclist involved in the incident.”

Any witnesses to the collision should contact police on 101.
