MEMBERS of a Bridgwater art group were delighted to receive a donation of a wheelchair for the Baptist Church after appealing through the Mercury this week.

Since placing the appeal, the Admiral Blake Art Club has since had an unused wheelchair donated to the church for free for members of different groups which use the church.

Julie Foxwell, a member of Admiral Blake Art Club, said: “I'm absolutely delighted. I just can't believe it.

“We have several in our art group who have had strokes and one lady has fibrosis of the lungs. I give her a lift to the Church and she can barely breathe in the time it takes to get from the car to her seat.

“The wheelchair will really help people to enjoy some freedom.”

Janet Biddiscombe, secretary at Bridgwater Baptist Church, said: “We are very pleased to accept the gift of a wheelchair and would like to thank all involved with the donation.

“Many of the people who come into our buildings are elderly and may at some time benefit from the use of a chair.

“It will be good to have one to offer them. The church is very grateful for this donation.”
