A TALKING newspaper which keeps blind and partially-sighted people in Bridgwater up to date with the latest news is celebrating its 150th edition this week.
The Bridgwater Talking Newspaper was launched in April 2009 and is distributed weekly by post to more than 40 people around the area. The cost of the project – which is free for users – is supported by the Bridgwater Lions International group.
Richard Culverhouse (pictured) from the newspaper, said: “We undertake the recordings on digital equipment and distribute the recordings on data sticks to be played to all those who need one.
“We provide local news, sport, postbag items, what’s on, items from around the area, announcements of births, birthdays, anniversaries and deaths, interspersed with some good music and ending with our ‘and finally’ corny joke of the week.”
The Talking Newspaper welcomes help from volunteers and supporters, either through donating time or money to the cause – for details visit bridgwatertalking|news.org.uk or call 01278-684390.
