A Bridgwater band which was created in five weeks has hailed its first charity concert as a success.
Nine staff members from Toolstation, which includes amateur guitarists, vocalists, a drummer and a keyboard player, joined forces to help raise money for SOS Day 2012, the RNLI's biggest fundraising day, on Friday.
The new band, called Spannered Or Screwed (in keeping with the SOS theme) performed their first gig from the back of a truck.
A band spokesman said the money was still coming in and being counted.
She said: “It was such a success with a really good crowd. The band put in so much effort but it is a good local cause.”
Toolstation's IT support manager Barry Lee, who organised the band, said: ““It is all for a good cause of course and we want to try and raise as much money as we can for the charity, but nevertheless we are becoming a little nervous. Getting a new band together in such a short time, especially when most have never performed in public before, is quite a challenge.”
Toolstation is the headline sponsor for the RNLI’S Flood Rescue Team and along with the band, they are also running a number of other fund-raising events.
Members of the public are invited to come along to the Toolstation main car park for Unit 3A at Express Business Park in Bridgwater for the start of the performance at 1.30pm.
The RNLI Flood Rescue Team comprises volunteer lifeboat crew members and operational RNLI staff and offers emergency inland waterborne search and rescue services. Last year the RNLI rescued an average of 22 people every day.
