SHOPPERS in Bridgwater are being urged to be vigilant after thieves stole the ring off a man’s finger at knifepoint.

The victim was putting his shopping into his car boot at the Morrisons car park in the town between 8.30 to 9pm on January 30 when he was confronted by three men.

One of the men threatened the shopper with what appeared to be a kitchen knife and demanded the victim hand over a mobile phone and a ring he was wearing.

The man who had threatened the shopper ran down the lane next to Taunton Road Medical Centre. The other two suspects ran in the direction of the canal at the rear of the store.

Police have described the main suspect as a white man, about 6ft 2ins tall of medium build. He was wearing a black top with the name Adidas, a black hood over his head with a scarf around the bottom part of his face, dark coloured tracksuit bottoms and white training shoes.

The other two suspects were described as two white men who were shorter than the main suspect and of medium build. Both were wearing dark clothing and one was wearing a red and white scarf.

All three are thought to have spoken with Eastern European accents.

Police believe there may have been people in the car park at the time of the incident who may have information. They are asked to contact Bridgwater CID on the police's non emergency number 101.

Officers have also urged second hand dealers and jewellers to be vigilant in case they are offered a ring similar to that shown, to contact them immediately.
