A FLY tipper from North Petherton who was caught dumping waste has been fined nearly £2,000.
Jeffrey Hughes, 35, dumped rubbish - ranging from mattresses to a mirror - in Puxton, in August of last year.
Hughes, from Beggs Close, pleaded guilty to fly tipping at North Somerset Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Hughes was identified by a member of the public who had seen where he had collected the items from and then followed his truck for some distance. She was also able to recognise the items dumped as those seen on the truck.
The magistrates said the offence was “very serious” and ordered him to pay £1,800.
Cllr Peter Bryant, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for environmental protection said this latest conviction showed the council would not tolerate this anti social practice and was committed to making North Somerset a cleaner and greener place.
"If you fly tip we will make every effort to track you down. We will not tolerate this disgraceful behaviour that spoils our beautiful area and drains tax payers money.
"If people witness fly tipping they don't have to intervene but they can provide us with as much detail as possible. We can then use this to investigate. Incidents can be reported by telephoning the council on 01934/ 01275 888 802."
