THE fly-fishing season got underway at Hawkridge reservoir, near Spaxton on Wednesday morning.

Scores of keen anglers lined the banks hoping for the catch of the day and many managed to land some impressively big fish.

Bob Palmer, chairman of Hawkridge Fly Fishing Club, is looking for entries into an open competition on Sunday, April 25.

He said: “It is sponsored by Exmoor Ale so there will be a free bottle of beer for everyone who takes part.”

Entry costs £4 and 13 prizes will be on offer.

Hawkridge Fly Fishing Club meets on the first Monday of every month at West India House, Bridgwater. All new members are welcome. Contact Bob on 01278-457873 or 07855-580105 for more information.
