A SEDGEMOOR teenager could inspire girls across the country to take up football refereeing, says the sport's governing body.
The Mercury reported how Daisy Goldsmith, of Puriton, was set to become Britain's youngest football referee when she turned 14 last Wednesday.
Daisy's inspirational story has been followed up by national newspapers, radio and TV stations, and this week a spokesman for the Football Association said: “We want to utilise the positive story that she is and her love of the game of football.
“While she is still young and at school, we hope she will encourage other young girls into refereeing.”
Daisy told the Mercury she had been overwhelmed by the attention she had received since our report last week, and felt like a “celebrity”.
She added: “I would love to be able to encourage others, and this has all made me more determined to succeed in the world of football.”
