New £1 million food centre to open at Sedgemoor Auction Centre

A WELL-KNOWN North Petherton butcher is expecting to take on twice the staff when he opens a new £1million venture at the Sedgemoor Auction Centre.

Malcolm Pyne will move his family business, P and B Pyne, to a new giant food store called The Barn, after the plans got the green light from Sedgemoor District Council.

Mr Pyne, who employs 11 staff at P and B Pyne, says he will need 20 workers when his business expands to sell fruit, vegetables, baked goods, dairy and specialist products.

Work should start within weeks and the development is expected to be open well before Christmas.

He said: “Given the attraction of the site and the way it has already become such a hugely popular destination, it's an opportunity we felt just could not let slip through out fingers.

“The chance of acquiring a site just down the road also gave us the opportunity to create the kind of business we have always dreamed of running.”

P and B Pyne was opened in Fore Street by Malcolm's parents 26 years ago.
