AROUND ten acres of elephant grass was destroyed in fire near Bridgwater last night.

Fire crews were called out to the Dodington area of Nether Stowey at 10.23pm to find 50 metres of the grass was alight.

The fire quickly spread in size to around 200 metres and threatened to damage nearby electricity poles.

The fire service believe the fire was started deliberately but police have not confirmed they are treating the fire as suspicious.
