A NUMBER of jobs are set to be cut at Bridgwater's Refresco base as the drinks giant looks to move its UK head office.

In January, Refresco completed the acquisition of Cott's bottling activities, creating the world's largest independent bottlers for retailers.

The process of integrating the two businesses in the UK began on April 3, after receiving the green light from the UK Competition and Markets authority.

Refresco say this will enable the UK company to branch out into filling cans as well as bottles.

Part of the integration will see the main head office moved to Kegworth 'due to its central geographic position and proximity to customers'.

A Refresco spokesman said: "Staff in both head offices have been informed about the decision and there will be opportunities for a number of staff who are able to relocate.

"Having said that, regretfully, it will also mean that we will not be able to provide new positions for all employees currently working in either head office.

"The process will be managed quickly, clearly and respectfully and naturally, we are committed to providing a package of support, and to assist staff with finding alternative employment."

Refresco say it is too early to tell the exact number of jobs likely to be lost but the Mercury understands the number to between 30 to 40.

The company says the 630 staff based at the large manufacturing site next to the head office will not be affected by the acquistion.
